Nigerian rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has called for the abolishment of the United Nations (UN), following the capture of Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro by the United States of America.
Sowore is angry with UN for not being able to stop US’ “impunity,” and “oppression” describing the UN as “jokers.”
In a post on his official X page, the vocal critic urged serious member nations to withdraw from the UN and called on them to boycott the next UN General Assembly (UNGA).
According to Sowore, UN has outlived its usefulness because it can no longer stop oppression, impunity, aggression or suffering.
He wrote: “I repeat, it is time to abolish the United Nations of jokers. Serious nations of the world should withdraw legitimacy from this hollow institution and boycott the next United Nations General Assembly #UNGA.“An organization that cannot stop impunity, aggression, or mass suffering has outlived its purpose.”
The United States on Saturday, captured the Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro and his wife from his presidential residence in the country’s capital,
US President Donald Trump had announced Maduro’s arrest and he has been flown to America to face drugs related charges.
US forces captured Maduro following a large-scale military strike on the South American country.
“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country.
“This operation was done in conjunction with US Law Enforcement,” Trump announced on Truth Social.
Trump added that he would give a news conference at 11:00 am (1600 GMT) at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, where he is nearing the end of a two-week Christmas and New Year vacation.
