A United States of America-based Kenyan medic, James Opande, who lifted a woman’s dress while filming her in a club in Nairobi recently, has finally been sacked by his employer.
It would be recalled that Opande became a global sensation after he posted a video of a tipsy woman, Marion Naipei, at a club in Nairobi.
In the clip, he could be seen fondling the woman’s sensitive parts and lifting her skimpy dress to reveal that she was not wearing anything underneath.
The video created a lot of outrage, with activists calling for his arrest for embarrassing the young woman, who was in a vulnerable state.
He later defended himself, saying that it was the woman who was harassing him, demanding that he sleep with her while struggling with his trousers’ zip.
Many netizens opined that it was not enough reason to film her and put it on the internet without her consent.
Some activists called for his arrest, but it appeared this never happened. While a friend of the US-based medic claimed that he was arrested and detained, it seemed it was a diversionary tactic, as there was no evidence to back it up.
Opande later returned to his base in the US without any incident. However, activists took to the social media pages of his employers in the US, demanding his sack.
For a long time, there was no official response from Opande’s employers until the matter appeared to have died down.
Opande has now taken to his Facebook page to announce that he was sacked on Tuesday, March 18, 2026. He claimed his employers cited the viral incident as the reason for his termination.
In a series of posts on social media, Opande accused Millie Odhiambo, the Member of Parliament representing Suba North, Kenya, of being behind his job loss.
He alleged that the outspoken lawmaker reported him to his employer and is also influencing moves to have him deported from the United States.
“I don’t understand why Millie Odhiambo reported me to my employer and is still pushing for my deportation,” he wrote on his Facebook page in Luo.
As of the time of filing this report, Odhiambo has not publicly responded to the allegations.
Meanwhile, Naipei, whose video sparked widespread reactions online, is said to have taken a different path following the controversy.
Reports indicate that she has joined a church led by Victor Kanyari, a controversial Kenyan preacher, where she now serves as an usher.
