Dele Momodu, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has launched a blistering attack on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the real force behind the former Rivers State governor’s continued political relevance.
In a post shared on social media, Momodu argued that Wike’s influence is sustained solely by Tinubu’s backing, warning that the FCT minister would fade into political irrelevance the moment the president decides to move on.
“Take it from me, Tinubu is the god enabling him,” Momodu wrote. “He will instantly become irrelevant once Tinubu dumps him, whenever his ‘relevance’ expires.”
The veteran journalist accused Wike of becoming increasingly dangerous to Nigeria’s democracy, alleging that his political style now poses a threat to the system many Nigerians fought to establish.
Momodu also described Wike as a potential liability to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that despite his closeness to the Tinubu administration, the former Rivers governor lacks the courage to formally join the party.
According to him, Wike’s refusal to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a calculated move, as he continues to cling to the opposition party as a political safety net.
“He’s forcefully holding on to PDP as his ultimate lifeline,” Momodu stated, adding that Tinubu may eventually be compelled to tactically sideline Wike and look for “more polite enforcers” if the political climate changes.
