The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to finalize the renegotiation of the 2009 Agreement, which covers salaries, allowances, and conditions of service for university workers.
In a statement signed by its President, Comrade Ibeji Nwokoma, NAAT declared that though it remains open to dialogue, it will resort to industrial action if its demands are not met by the deadline.
The ultimatum follows the outcome of NAAT’s National Executive Council meeting held at the Federal University, Lafia, where members resolved to press the government for action.
Completion of the renegotiation process for the 2009 FG/NAAT Agreement, particularly reviewing existing salary structures and conditions of service.
Mainstreaming earned allowances into base salaries to prevent accumulation of unpaid arrears.
Release of a circular enabling CONTISS 14 & 15 promotions, which would allow NAAT members to reach the highest levels of their career scale.
Timely payment of monthly salaries, which the union says have lately been delayed.
NAAT also criticized “disparity and distortions” in the salary tables being used for university staff, warning against policies that could trigger a breakdown in the system.
If the government fails to comply within the 14 days, NAAT promises no further notices before declaring industrial action.
Other university staff unions, such as SSANU and NASU, have also threatened strike actions over the non-implementation of the 2009 Agreement.
