In a statement posted on X on Monday, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria emphasized that adherence to visa rules is critical to maintaining access for Nigerians who travel responsibly. “Visa overstays by Nigerian travellers can affect opportunities for their fellow citizens,” the Mission said. “Strengthening compliance helps protect access for students, business travellers and families who travel responsibly.”
The Mission also encouraged Nigerians to report incidents of visa fraud, directing them to the appropriate authorities via AbujaFPU@state.gov or LagosFPU@state.gov. Immigration experts say the warning reflects ongoing efforts by the U.S. to ensure that visa programmes are used correctly and that travellers abide by the rules, thereby safeguarding travel privileges for the wider community.
