Two persons have reportedly been killed and property worth millions of naira destroyed in an orgy of violence that engulfed residents of Araromi Owu in Ayedade Local Government Area Of Osun State over chieftaincy matters.
Besides the loss of two lives in the mayhem, Daily Query reports that the palace of the community head had been set ablaze as of the time of filing this report earlier today, Tuesday, July 23, 2024.
Said to be located in a remote area dotted with dilapidated roads and populated mostly by farmers, the community, sources said, had been torn apart by quarrels over chieftaincy matters for the past three days.
Sources said the king-designate had been in seclusion in preparation for his installation only for another person to lay claim to the stool.
This resulted in a crisis in the heat in which a mob set the king’s palace ablaze.
Mr. Yemisi Opalola, the police spokesperson in the area, said mobile police had been deployed to the community. The Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Security Matters, Bar Samuel Ojo, who confirmed the seriousness of the crisis, said: “We have been on it for the past three days. We have deployed security operatives to the community. I can only confirm two casualties.”
