The recently launched Nigerian e-visa platform has recorded over 14,000 applications within its first six weeks of operation, according to the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The minister disclosed this while speaking on the early success of the digital migration initiative introduced to ease the country’s visa processing and boost global access.

Tunji-Ojo said the new system was designed to simplify entry procedures, reduce bureaucracy, and attract more visitors and investors by enabling applicants to complete the entire visa process online. He noted that the surge in applications is a sign of growing confidence in Nigeria’s new digital infrastructure and a step towards aligning immigration services with global standards.

The e-visa portal, launched as part of broader reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, is expected to contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth by promoting tourism, business travel, and international partnerships. Officials say further enhancements will soon be introduced to accommodate more visa categories and improve turnaround time.
