United States President Donald Trump and leaders of the Group of Seven nations on Wednesday discussed the conflict involving Iran, the war in Ukraine, artificial intelligence and global economic security during the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, France.
Trump drew attention during one of the summit sessions when he jokingly remarked, “I’m the boss”, prompting laughter from several leaders, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
A major focus of discussions was a preliminary understanding between the United States and Iran aimed at easing tensions and securing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route.
According to reports, the proposed arrangement would allow Iran to resume oil exports and commit to not developing nuclear weapons, while the United States would consider sanctions relief and other measures. Trump cautioned that the agreement remains under negotiation and has not yet been finalised.
The U.S. President also expressed concern over continuing hostilities involving Israel and Hezbollah, saying efforts should be made to prevent a wider regional conflict that could undermine diplomatic progress.
On Ukraine, G7 leaders reaffirmed support for Kyiv and discussed additional measures to increase pressure on Russia as the conflict continues.
The summit also examined issues including artificial intelligence, critical mineral supply chains and global economic resilience.
World leaders are expected to continue consultations before the summit concludes, with further announcements anticipated on the Iran negotiations and other international security matters.
