Troops of Sector 3, Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have neutralised a suspected bandit following an intelligence-led operation along the Adankolo–Apata Road in Kogi State.
The strategic operation was launched on Saturday, October 31, following actionable intelligence detailing the movement of armed bandits within the local government corridors of Lokoja and Kabba-Bunu. Acting swiftly on the security reports, military personnel established a tactical ambush position along a known supply route used by criminal elements in the area.
Upon contact, the troops engaged the armed group in a firefight, subduing the assailants and forcing the surviving members to flee into the surrounding vegetation.
During a subsequent exploitation search conducted around 9:00 PM near the Adankolo Forest area, troops located the body of a neutralised bandit. The search also yielded critical physical evidence, including one locally made pistol, one live cartridge, and an empty 7.62mm special ammunition casing.
Confirming the engagement, Sector Spokesman Captain Ahmad Zubairu stated that the troops acted decisively on real-time intelligence to interdict the bandit network and secure the vital transport corridor.
Commending the frontline personnel for their gallantry and professional execution, Major General Moses Gara, Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke and General Officer Commanding (GOC) 5 Division, Nigerian Army, reaffirmed the task force’s commitment to eliminating criminal hideouts and safeguarding lives and property across the region.
Major General Gara further appealed to residents of Kogi State to remain vigilant and support ongoing security efforts by providing timely, accurate information to military authorities.
