Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force Northwest Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have thwarted a planned attack by the notorious Lakurawa Terrorist Group (LTG) following a tactical ambush in Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
​According to military authorities, the operation took place in the early hours of Monday, August 10, 2026, around 4:30 AM along a major transit corridor connecting border communities near the Kamba-Dandi axis. Acting on credible intelligence regarding the movement of armed elements preparing to launch coordinated strikes on vulnerable communities, the troops deployed swiftly to intercept the insurgents while in transit.
​In a statement released from the Sector 2 Operational Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi confirmed that troops mounted an ambush that completely surprised the advancing terrorists.
​”Our troops deployed under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA successfully executed a precision ambush against elements of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group who were en route to wreak havoc in Dandi LGA,” Lt. Col. Abdullahi stated. “Upon entering the kill zone, the terrorists were met with overwhelming firepower, forcing them to disperse into surrounding foliage with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.”
​The engagement resulted in the neutralization of several insurgents, while operational equipment including high-powered automatic rifles, ammunition, communication devices, and logistics supplies was recovered at the scene.
​The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, reaffirmed the Nigerian Armed Forces’ commitment to eradicating terror networks across the Northwest region. He noted that search-and-flush operations are ongoing throughout the forest enclaves of Dandi and neighboring local government areas to track down fleeing members of the group.
​The military hierarchy urged residents of Dandi LGA, Kamba, and surrounding border settlements to remain vigilant and report any individuals seeking medical treatment for suspicious gunshot injuries to the nearest security formation.
