Panic gas gripped Maiduguri, Borno State, after a devastating explosion tore through a crowded mosque on Wednesday evening.
It was gathered that the explosion left several worshippers feared dead and many others injured just hours before Christmas Day.
The blast occurred at approximately 6:10 p.m. at the Gambarou Jumu’at Mosque in the Customs area of Gamboru Ward.
Eyewitnesses report that the explosion went off during the Maghrib (sunset) congregational prayers, a time when the mosque was filled with worshippers.
It was also gathered that the blast had already created fear among residents, especially within the Christian community, preparing for the 2025 Christmas celebration.
Security operatives have cordoned off the area to prevent further casualties and to allow a preliminary assessment of the incident.
