Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire (SAN), representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, has mounted a vigorous defense of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic policies, insisting that ongoing structural reforms are laying the groundwork for sustainable growth rather than providing temporary relief.
Speaking on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, during the live current affairs program “Renewed Hope Agenda” on Adaba 88.9 FM, Akure, the lawmaker emphasized that the president inherited a fragile economy that required immediate, courageous intervention rather than cosmetic adjustments. The radio program, anchored by broadcast journalist Dimeji Daniel, aired at 10:00 AM.
Adegbonmire, who also serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters—argued that critical decisions such as the removal of petrol subsidies and foreign exchange unified market operations were essential to stop fiscal leakages.
”Things are being done in phases, but the President is building systems and institutions that will endure,” Adegbonmire declared during the broadcast. “For that reason, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves commendation for his courage and commitment. Economic recovery requires patience and proper sequencing; microeconomic fundamentals must stabilize before full macroeconomic improvements reflect in daily living conditions.”
Addressing critics of the administration, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria noted that major international financial institutions, including the World Bank, have validated the trajectory of Nigeria’s fiscal reforms.
He pointed to concrete progress under the administration, including the expansion of key infrastructure like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, investments in rail and aviation safety, foreign exchange reserve stability, and the rollout of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
Highlighting his legislative activities and constituency projects across Ondo Central, the lawmaker listed several local interventions aimed at cushioning the impact of national adjustments.
These include educational infrastructure projects worth over ₦800 million at Oyemekun Grammar School in Akure, new facilities at St. Helen’s Unity Secondary School in Ondo, health center renovations in Ipogun and FUTA North, and widespread constituency empowerment initiatives.
