President Bola Tinubu has declared that Nigeria remains a prime target for extremist attacks because the nation has consistently chosen the path of tolerance, freedom, and democratic governance over tyranny and oppression.
Speaking at a national security forum in Abuja on Thursday, the President said violent groups resent Nigeria not for its weakness, but for its strength in diversity and its resilience in upholding democratic values.
>Nigeria is despised by terrorists because we have rejected their ideology of hatred and embraced the unity that comes with tolerance. They see our democracy as a threat to their tyranny, and our freedom as a challenge to their oppressive designs,” Tinubu stated.
He emphasized that terrorism thrives on fear and division, but Nigeria’s resolve to remain one united country continues to frustrate extremist agendas. According to him, the government’s counter-terrorism efforts will not only focus on military responses but also on addressing the social and economic vulnerabilities exploited by terrorist networks.
Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration would strengthen intelligence gathering, deepen regional security cooperation, and continue to support the Armed Forces to ensure the safety of all citizens.
The President further called on religious leaders, traditional rulers, and civil society to join hands with government in promoting tolerance and peace across the nation.

Security analysts at the forum lauded the President’s remarks, noting that the ideological battle against terrorism is as critical as the military campaign. They stressed that fostering inclusion, empowering communities, and building trust in government are key to countering extremist propaganda.
Tinubu’s comments come amid renewed security operations in the North-East and North-West regions, where troops have intensified air and ground offensives against insurgent groups.
