President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Ahmed Abubakar Audi as Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a fresh five-year term.
The reappointment took effect on 27 February.
Dr Audi, first appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, completed his initial tenure last week.
He is expected to resume fully on Monday with what the presidency describes as a renewed mandate.

The NSCDC plays a key role in protecting critical national infrastructure, supporting disaster response, and assisting in internal security operations.
President Tinubu said the extension comes at a time when Nigeria’s security agencies are under pressure to respond to banditry, kidnapping and terrorism.
In a statement signed by presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga, the president charged Dr Audi “to reposition the service to play a more significant role in the country’s security, especially as the police refocus on their primary responsibility of protecting citizens from bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists.”
Track record and background
Dr Audi joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in November 1996.
He later rose through the ranks after serving in several state commands and at the national headquarters in Abuja.
He holds academic qualifications in public administration and law enforcement, including degrees from Ahmadu Bello University, University of Calabar, and Nasarawa State University.
His first five-year tenure saw the corps expand its operational units and deepen collaboration with other security agencies.

The presidency has not yet outlined specific performance benchmarks for the new term.
