President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

The announcement was made yesterday in Abuja by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to the statement, Yusuf’s appointment is subject to confirmation by the Senate, in accordance with Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2006.

In a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu urged the Senate to conduct an expedited screening and confirmation process for Yusuf, who is set to succeed Prof. Abdullahi Usman. Usman resigned this week after serving approximately 14 months in office.

Ambassador Yusuf is a seasoned diplomat with extensive experience in international relations. He previously served as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Türkiye from 2021 to 2024. His diplomatic career spans several decades, marked by notable contributions to Nigeria’s foreign policy and international engagements.

Observers say Yusuf’s wealth of experience in diplomacy is expected to bring strategic oversight and enhanced efficiency to NAHCON, particularly as the commission prepares for future Hajj operations.
The Senate is expected to commence the confirmation process in the coming weeks.
