The House of Representatives said President Bola Tinubu has written it on the declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State in line with Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution ( as amended).

The House spokesman, Akin Rotimi, in a statement on Tuesday night – last night, March 18 – said President Tinubu had met with the leadership of the National Assembly, before the declaration.

According to him, the meeting was attended by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen; the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, and the Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele

Rotimi noted that the House leader, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, was also present at the meeting, which was attended by the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu and heads of security agencies.

“During this meeting, they were fully briefed on Mr. President’s intentions, and all present unanimously expressed their support.

“Furthermore, Mr. President’s formal letter, informing the House of Representatives of his decision and seeking approval in line with Section 305 of the Constitution, has been transmitted and will be read during plenary tomorrow, Wednesday, March 19, 2025, and further legislative action debated and decided”, he stated.
