President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former senator and prominent Cross River politician, Florence Ita Giwa, on her 80th birthday, describing her as a resilient and courageous Nigerian who helped break the political glass ceiling.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President joined Ita Giwa’s family, friends and associates in celebrating the milestone, while acknowledging her decades of dedicated service to the nation.
Tinubu noted that the former lawmaker represented Cross River South Senatorial District in the Senate between 1999 and 2003, where she made notable contributions to legislative debates and national discourse. He also recalled her earlier service in other key public offices during Nigeria’s democratic evolution.
According to the President, Ita Giwa served as the National Republican Convention (NRC) chairman for Delta State and was elected into the House of Representatives between 1992 and 1993, marking her as one of the few women who navigated the complex political terrain of that era.
Tinubu said her political journey reflected uncommon resilience and determination, adding that she charted a less-travelled path for women in leadership and opened doors for greater female participation in governance.
He commended her enduring commitment to public service and prayed for continued strength, good health and wisdom as she celebrates the landmark age of 80.
