President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the coach of Nigeria’s women’s basketball team D’Tigress, Rena Wakama, on her recognition as the best coach of women’s basketball at the just-ended Paris 2024 Olympics.
The 32-year-old coach led the D’Tigress to a historic achievement, becoming the first African basketball team to reach the quarter-finals at the Olympic Games.
According to a statement issued by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu praised Wakama’s leadership qualities and dedication to duty, which were key factors in her team’s unprecedented success.
The President also commended the entire D’Tigress team, the coach, and all those who contributed to the remarkable feat at the Olympics, urging them to remain resilient and determined for greater achievements in the future.
While winning trophies and medals is the ultimate goal in competitive sports, President Tinubu emphasised that good sportsmanship, discipline, and sacrifice shown by the Nigerian contingent at the Olympic Games are equally important.
The President thanked the Nigerian contingent and wished them success in their future endeavours.
