President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the management and staff of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria on the occasion of its 75th anniversary, praising the organisation for its enduring contributions to national development, public information, and broadcasting excellence.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended warm greetings not only to the management and staff of the corporation but also to the Minister, management, and staff of the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, as well as other sister agencies under the ministry.
President Tinubu described the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria as a dynamic and vibrant institution that has remained central to Nigeria’s communication landscape and beyond. He noted that the corporation has grown into Africa’s largest broadcast network, operating 47 FM stations and six zonal stations across the country, a development he said reflects its resilience, expansion, and commitment to reaching Nigerians in both urban and rural communities.
The President highlighted the historic role the corporation has played in enhancing development communication between leaders, governments, and citizens for more than seven decades. According to him, FRCN has consistently served as a reliable medium for information, education, and entertainment, helping to shape public opinion, promote national unity, and support democratic governance.
He noted that through various programmes over the years, the corporation has informed Nigerians about government policies, public health campaigns, educational opportunities, and national events, while also providing a platform for cultural expression, music, drama, and public discourse. He added that the corporation’s wide reach has made it one of the most trusted sources of news and information for millions of Nigerians, especially those in remote areas where radio remains the most accessible medium of communication.
President Tinubu also commended the dedication and professionalism of the management and staff of the corporation, both past and present, for sustaining the organisation’s legacy and adapting to changes in technology and media practice. He acknowledged that the broadcasting industry has undergone significant transformation over the decades, moving from analogue to digital systems, and praised FRCN for evolving with the times while maintaining its public service mandate.
The President encouraged the corporation to continue embracing innovation, digital broadcasting, and modern media strategies in order to remain competitive in the rapidly changing global media environment. He stressed the importance of credible journalism and responsible broadcasting in strengthening democracy, promoting peace, and fostering national development.
He further reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting institutions that play critical roles in informing and educating the public, noting that a well-informed citizenry is essential for national progress and good governance.
As the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria marks its 75th anniversary, the President expressed confidence that the organisation would continue to grow, modernise, and uphold its responsibility as a public broadcaster committed to truth, professionalism, and service to the nation.
