President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ibrahim Oloriegbe as Chairman of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), effective March 11, 2025, for an initial four-year term.
The appointment was announced in a statement signed by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
A former Senator representing Kwara Central (2019–2023), Oloriegbe chaired the Senate Committee on Health and the Joint National Assembly Committee on Health, driving key legislative reforms in healthcare.
He holds a Bachelor’s in Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University and a Master’s in Coaching and Consultation from the University of Oxford and HEC Paris.
He is a member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN), International AIDS Society (IAS), and the Africa Health Leadership and Management Network.
Oloriegbe began his political career in the Kwara State House of Assembly (1999–2003), serving as Majority Leader and chairing Health and Local Government committees. He later defeated former Senate President Bukola Saraki in the 2019 Kwara Central senatorial election.
The appointment aligns with Tinubu’s healthcare reform agenda, leveraging Oloriegbe’s legislative and medical expertise to expand health insurance coverage and improve access to services.
