The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has officially confirmed that the newly installed Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance system on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos is now fully operational. This announcement underscores ongoing federal initiatives to bolster security, improve infrastructure maintenance, and prevent vandalism across Nigeria’s major public assets.
Speaking during a tour of federal roads and bridges in Lagos, Umahi said, “We have installed solar-powered CCTV on the Third Mainland Bridge and they are all functioning. This is to ensure that everything happening on that bridge is monitored and recorded.” He emphasized that the move is part of broader efforts to modernize road safety mechanisms and enhance surveillance of critical infrastructure.
The project is one of several recently implemented under the Renewed Hope Infrastructure agenda. The surveillance installation comes with solar lighting systems, emergency call points, and fiber optic links to real-time control rooms to allow rapid response from law enforcement. According to the minister, this technology-driven approach will be replicated on other bridges and highways across the country.
