Many have called me and said Fada Blunt what is your take on what happened between the Minister of FCT Wike and Lieutenant Yerima. I guess you have all seen and watched the video clips, recounting the narrative would be boring.
I have equally read many analysis from different school of thoughts, I wouldn’t bother analysing the saga from either the constitutional or civil angles. I would rather draw lessons from the scenario to see how Christians should behave with authority and power.
The truth is, when a man understands authority, he does not tremble before power, nor does he bow to intimidation. That was the spirit behind Yerima’s calm firmness in his encounter with Minister Wike.
While the nation watched tension rise, Yerima stood unruffled, not because he was stubborn, but because he was a man under authority.
He knew who sent him. He knew his boundaries. He was confident, not confrontational. He spoke from position, not from pride. That’s what it means to standunder authority.
Our strength as Christians is not our own; it flows from the one who sent you. The posture and carriage of Yerima before Wike is how God expects us to face the devil and the challenges of life.
The Bible says, “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might” (Ephesians 6:10). Notice, not in your power, but His.
Yerima’s calmness under pressure mirrors the composure of a soldier who knows that his commanding officer stands behind him even when such a commanding officer is far off from him.
When the devil roars, remember: you are not an ordinary man or woman; you are under divine command. Jesus said, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions…” (Luke 10:19). You are deployed, not abandoned.
So, stand tall. Speak boldly. Don’t negotiate with darkness. When Satan reminds you of his threats, remind him of your authority in Christ. When fear whispers, let faith roars back. Stand like Yerima, not shaken, not rude, but rooted in assurance. The devil only respects those who know who sent them. Confidence is not arrogance, it is faith in the authority you represent.
As Christians we should in all our actions reflect the carriage, confidence, charisma, authority, unwavering and strong personality of Yerima before any intimidation from our adversaries.
I wouldn’t know what you saw in those trending clips of Wike and Yerima but I saw a man who is under authority and understands the efficiency and effectiveness of the command of a superior authority that should be obeyed without asking questions. Such should be our disposition when God commands us to do anything.
