The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), Sonny Echono, has inaugurated a newly built conference centre at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), describing it as a boost to academic collaboration, research, and innovation in the institution.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Thursday, Echono said the facility, funded by TETFUND, was part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to provide world-class infrastructure in Nigerian tertiary institutions. He noted that the conference centre would serve as a hub for local and international academic engagements, seminars, workshops, and policy dialogues.

“This project is in line with TETFUND’s mandate to upgrade facilities across our universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. A vibrant academic environment requires not just classrooms and laboratories, but also spaces for robust intellectual exchange,” he stated.

The Vice Chancellor of BUK, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, commended TETFUND for its consistent support to the university, listing previous interventions in lecture theatres, laboratories, and staff development. He said the conference centre would enhance the institution’s profile and attract global partnerships.

Dignitaries at the event included top academics, government officials, and student representatives, who lauded the project as timely and impactful for both teaching and research.

With the new facility, BUK is expected to host more high-profile academic gatherings, strengthening its role as a leading centre of learning in Nigeria’s North-West region.
