The Croatian international announced his decision on social media, expressing gratitude for the support he received during his 13-year tenure at the Santiago Bernabéu. Modrić’s final match at home was a 2–0 victory over Real Sociedad yesterday, where he received a heartfelt tribute from fans and teammates alike.
Since joining Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, Modrić has amassed an impressive 28 titles, including six UEFA Champions League trophies and four La Liga titles. Despite his advancing age, he continued to play a pivotal role in the team’s midfield, contributing significantly in both domestic and international competitions. His leadership on and off the pitch earned him the captaincy in 2024, following the departure of Nacho Fernández.
Looking ahead, Modrić has expressed his intention to continue playing professionally, with a particular focus on participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with the Croatian national team.
