The Democratic Front (TDF) has praised President Bola Tinubu’s initiation of a new national headquarters for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), calling it a significant boost for Nigeria’s democratic infrastructure. In a statement released in Abuja today, TDF Chairman Malam Danjuma Muhammad said the project is “a bold step towards institutionalizing democratic values in the country”.

The group emphasized that a well-equipped INEC enhances public trust, pointing to improved outcomes in recent state elections such as Imo, Edo, and Ondo, as early signs of stronger electoral integrity under Tinubu’s oversight . They described the move as “visionary”, noting President Tinubu’s consistent support for democratic institutions despite past military rule challenges.

Analysts agree the headquarters annex, flagged off in mid-June and expected to house modern facilities like training centres, an election museum, and IT hubs, could mark a turning point in bolstering INEC’s autonomy and capacity. The project is also seen as part of a broader strategy to reinforce Nigeria’s electoral ecosystem ahead of the 2027 general elections.
