The Nigerian Navy has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the fight against crude oil theft and other criminal activities in Delta territorial waters with the appointment of a new commander at the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta.
The newly appointed Commander of NNS Delta, Commodore Shehu Tasiu, has assured that all necessary efforts would be deployed to uphold the mandate of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, particularly in the protection of national assets within the region. Tasiu made this pledge while formally assuming office from the outgoing commander, Commodore Abdulahi Zubairu.
Speaking at the brief handover ceremony held on Friday at the NNS Delta Command in Warri, Commodore Tasiu emphasized the Navy’s resolve to intensify operations aimed at curbing crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and other forms of maritime crime that threaten economic stability and security in the Niger Delta.
The ceremony was witnessed by the Flag Officer Commanding Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim, alongside senior naval officers and personnel. The transition, according to naval authorities, underscores the service’s continuous efforts to strengthen operational leadership and enhance maritime security in Nigeria’s strategic waterways.
