The Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has stated that sustained investment in basic education is fundamental to raising well-rounded citizens and securing a prosperous, highly developed future for Nigeria.

Senator Bamidele made these remarks on Saturday, October 3, 2026, during the official handover ceremony of a newly renovated public school project, funded through a ₦200 million intervention, at the Government Science College campus in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Speaking to educators, community leaders, and government officials gathered at the venue, Bamidele emphasised that foundational learning remains the ultimate bedrock of national progress and human capital development.

”The foundation stage of education is critical to both individual and national development. Societies seeking sustainable growth must prioritize quality learning for children,” Senator Bamidele declared. “Part of my vision is for us to build an educational framework that produces professionals who will surpass our generation, the future engineers, doctors, scientists, governors, and senators of tomorrow.”

He further called on federal and state authorities, private sector actors, and philanthropic organisations to join forces in expanding infrastructure and upgrading public school learning environments nationwide.

The event featured several prominent guest speakers and state officials who highlighted the impact of grassroots educational funding.

Dr. Adebimpe Aderiye, Ekiti State Commissioner for Education (representing Governor Biodun Oyebanji): Commended the Senate Leader’s infrastructural intervention, calling it a vital contribution toward standardising public school environments. She assured attendees that the Ekiti State Government remains committed to supporting public institutions and ensuring community facilities are well-maintained.

Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Former Governor of Ekiti State: Applauded Senator Bamidele’s sustained constituency engagement, describing the intervention as a crucial step toward restoring academic excellence across the region. He recalled that the school model was originally conceived during his administration (1999–2003) to deliver targeted science education to local youth.

Senator Bamidele concluded his address by assuring constituents that additional development initiatives, including potential expansions of classroom blocks and road repairs leading to regional academic centers remain active priorities on his legislative agenda.
