The win marked Nigeria’s first opening match victory since 2016, breaking a streak of draws and defeats, and reasserted their dominance over North African opponents. Coach Justin Madugu praised the team’s cohesion and depth, pointing to their early control of the game and effective use of substitutes to maintain momentum. Oshoala, Babajide, and Ihezuo all delivered standout performances, with Babajide earning special mention for her assist and timely goal.
The result places Nigeria atop Group B as they aim to secure a record-extending 10th WAFCON title. They will next face Botswana on Thursday, buoyed by renewed confidence and tactical balance.
