Nigeria’s Super Eagles B will face defending champions Senegal in their Group D opener at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 on August 5, 2025, marking their first-ever clash in the tournament’s history. The match, set for 8 p.m. local time at the 15,000-capacity Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar, kicks off Nigeria’s campaign in the co-hosted tournament across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Under coach Eric Sekou Chelle, Nigeria aims to seize a historic title after missing the last two editions, while Senegal, led by coach Souleymane Diallo, seeks to defend their 2022 crown won in a penalty shootout against Algeria.
The Super Eagles B, returning after a silver in 2018 and bronze in 2014, have prepared with a three-week training camp in Ikenne-Remo and two draws against Zanzibar. Chelle, also managing Nigeria’s senior team, expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness, highlighting players like captain Nduka Junior and winger Anas Yussuf, who scored 18 goals last season.
However, Nigeria’s recent friendlies showed struggles with finishing, raising concerns about their attack against a technically efficient Senegal side.Senegal, unbeaten in their last 10 CHAN matches against West African teams, faces a setback with the injury withdrawal of goalkeeper Idris Ndiaye, replaced by Cheikh Lô Ndoye.
Despite this, their depth and championship pedigree make them favorites, though bookmakers predict a tight, low-scoring game, possibly a 1-1 draw. With Group D including Congo and Sudan, both teams know a strong start is crucial in this compact group stage.
