Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State on Friday inaugurated projects executed by Mr Safiyanu Andaha, Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area, to enhance service delivery and development in the area.

Andaha is also the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Nasarawa State Chapter.

The projects inaugurated include the office of the Executive Chairman, legislative chamber, residential building for personnel of the Nigerian Army’s Operation Whirl Stroke, and the Education Department building, among others.

Sule commended Andaha for his foresight and commitment to grassroots development, saying the projects would improve the working environment for council officials and enhance productivity.

He attributed the projects to economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu, which, he said, had increased resources available to state and local governments.

“All these projects are as a result of the economic reforms by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the state and local government areas,” he said.

The governor said that the projects also reflected his administration’s decision not to interfere with the finances of local government councils in the state.

He described Andaha’s efforts as commendable and urged other council chairmen to prioritise projects that would improve the welfare of the people.

Sule disclosed that he had approved the construction of Bassa Road and other roads across the state to boost agricultural production and socio-economic activities.

He also called on political actors in the state to embrace issue-based campaigns in the interest of peace and development.

In their separate remarks, the Emir of Lafia, retired Justice Sidi Bage; Chun Mada, Mr Samson Gamu Yare; Sen. Ahmed Wadada; Sen. Danladi Envulunza; and Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr Danladi Jatau, commended Andaha for executing the projects.

Other dignitaries who praised the council chairman included Mr Yakubu Kwanta, Commissioner for Works, and Alhaji Aminu Maifata, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

They said the projects would provide a conducive working environment for council officials and promote peace and development in the area.

The dignitaries also urged other local government chairmen to emulate Andaha’s commitment to grassroots development.

They commended Sule for providing a foundation for development through people-oriented projects across the state.

Earlier, Andaha said the projects were designed to create a conducive working environment and improve productivity in the council.

“These projects will go a long way in creating an enabling environment for both the executive and the legislature to discharge their duties effectively, as well as for other staff,” he said.

He said the construction of the Nigerian Army residential building was part of his administration’s efforts to promote peace in Akwanga and its environs.

Andaha appreciated Sule for allowing local government councils to manage their finances, saying the arrangement had enabled them to execute people-oriented projects.
