The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), South-West Zone, has issued an urgent demand to the Ondo State Government and the management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), to immediately clear all outstanding salary arrears, allowances, and statutory entitlements owed to non-teaching staff.
​The call was made in a communiqué released following the zone’s Executive Council meeting held at 10:00 AM on Thursday at the SSANU Zone Secretariat in Akure.
​Speaking on behalf of the union, the National Vice President (South-West), Comrade Dr. Leku Ador, alongside the AAUA Branch Chairman, Comrade Tayo Okoro, expressed deep concern over the persistent financial strain placed on university staff due to systemic delays in entitlement disbursements.
Immediate release of funds for the payment of the outstanding 25% and 35% salary review arrears, in line with nationally negotiated agreements. The immediate disbursement of overdue Earned Allowance benefits owed to non-teaching university workers.
A prompt remittance of all unremitted third-party deductions, including cooperative contributions and union dues, to prevent further hardship on workers.
A call to the Ondo State Governor to increase the monthly subvention allocated to AAUA to ensure long-term industrial peace and institutional stability. Addressing journalists after the meeting, Comrade Leku Ador emphasized that the union’s patience has reached its limit.
​”Our members at Adekunle Ajasin University have shown exceptional patience and dedication to keeping the academic calendar uninterrupted,” Ador stated.
However, dedication should not be rewarded with neglect. We are urging the Ondo State Government and the university administration to act swiftly before the union is forced to take decisive industrial action.”
​The SSANU leadership warned that if the state government and university management fail to respond positively within a reasonable timeframe, the union will not hesitate to mobilize its members for a zone-wide strike action to enforce their rights.
