Yesterday, the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Midashiru Obasa, was impeached by the House for what was described as “gross misconduct”.
An overwhelming majority of 32 of the House’s 40 Members voted to impeach Mr. Midashiru, who was immediately replaced by his former deputy, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda.
This speech here by Obasa sounds as audacious as it is careless, even unintelligent. What impudence: what were all those innuendos about his identity for?
For someone who has been around in the hierarchical politics of Lagos for a long time, Obasa sounded rather too fatalistic, not to say self-destructive, for his experience. He spoke as someone who was consciously courting his own down-fall.
The 2027 politics of Lagos State is just unfolding and will be interesting to watch, indeed.
