Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, has openly declared his support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, stating that he has no regrets about his position.
Soludo made the remarks on Thursday during a live television interview in Awka, where he described the President as a friend and trusted ally. He also advised other presidential hopefuls to reconsider their ambitions ahead of the next general elections, stressing that political realities should guide their decisions.
The governor further revealed that the All Progressives Grand Alliance would not field a presidential candidate in 2027. According to him, the party’s decision is consistent with its position during the 2023 general elections when it did not present a candidate but instead supported the candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
“Tinubu is my friend, and I want him to win a second term. I am unapologetic about that,” Soludo said during the interview, reaffirming his commitment to the President’s re-election bid.
Soludo noted that continuity in governance would help sustain ongoing economic reforms and policies, adding that political collaboration across party lines was necessary for national development. He maintained that his support for Tinubu was based on what he described as a pragmatic assessment of Nigeria’s political and economic direction.
The governor’s declaration is expected to generate political reactions across party lines as preparations gradually begin ahead of the 2027 general elections. His position also signals the likelihood of continued political alignment between APGA and the ruling APC, a development that could influence political calculations in the South-East region.
