Some military troops have been feared dead as their operational vehicle ran over Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) believably planted on the way by Boko Haram insurgents in a Borno restive community.
The incident occurred on Monday – yesterday, March 24 -as a reinforcement team from the military base at Wajuroko in Sabon Gari, Damboa Local Government of the state pursued some Boko Haram insurgents after an attack, unknown to them the insurgents had buried IEDs on the way.
An explosion from the IEDs however caused serious damage, leading to the death of some of the troops. Unconfirmed numbers of troops were also injured in the incident.
The military has not confirmed the attack as at the time of filing this report. The area is one of the flashpoints of terrorist attacks in Borno State.
IEDs attacks on military troops in the counter-insurgency operation in the northeast underscores the complex nature of the war against terrorism.
