The Sokoto State Government unveiled 30 new mass transit buses and launched a digital e-ticketing platform on Sunday, July 27, 2025, to modernize public transportation and boost accountability. At the handover ceremony in Sokoto, Deputy Governor Idris Muhammed Gobir, representing Governor Ahmed Aliyu, handed the bus keys to Commissioner for Transportation Bala Kokani, noting that the initiative brings the total number of vehicles procured by the administration to 70.
Gobir highlighted that the e-ticketing system, now fully operational, allows passengers to book and pay for trips online, reducing queues and ensuring fares go directly to government coffers.
The initiative aligns with Governor Aliyu’s push for transparency, with the e-ticketing platform designed to curb financial leakages and enhance oversight of the state’s 126 mass transit vehicles, as earlier demonstrated to the governor in December 2024, per Punch Newspapers. Kokani reportedly praised the governor’s investment in the transport sector, assuring that the buses would be maintained meticulously to serve inter-state, intra-city, and inter-local government routes effectively.
The launch, supported by modern tracking devices installed in the vehicles, aims to ease transportation challenges amid economic pressures from fuel subsidy removal, fostering a more efficient and accessible transit network for Sokoto residents.
