Telecom operators in Nigeria have announced a temporary disruption to SIM-related services across all mobile networks following a directive from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) disclosed this on Monday, attributing the expected delays to NIMC’s migration to a new identity verification platform.
According to ALTON, the disruption will affect services such as SIM registration, SIM swaps, and related activities that require identity validation. The association expressed regret over the inconvenience but noted that the switch is part of NIMC’s upgrade process aimed at improving national identity verification services.
Mobile network users across the country have been advised to remain patient while the transition is completed. ALTON assured subscribers that normal service will resume once NIMC finalises the system migration.
