The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has urged Nigerian youths to reject cybercrime and other social vices, and instead embrace legitimate ventures that uphold national pride and personal integrity.
Speaking on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at a youth empowerment programme held in Ilorin, Kwara State, Olukoyede stressed that while criminal activities—particularly internet fraud—may seem profitable at first, they always end in regret and disgrace. The event, organized by Faitheroic Generation (FHG), brought together over 400 young Nigerians for training in freelancing, digital skills, and ethical network marketing as part of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“There is dignity in labour. Shortcuts through cybercrime may seem attractive, but they destroy futures and reputations,” Olukoyede stated, in remarks delivered on his behalf by Ayodele Babatunde, Head of Public Affairs at the EFCC’s Ilorin Zonal Directorate. “Nigeria’s youths must rise above these temptations and use their potential to build a country they can be proud of.”
He further noted that while unemployment and economic challenges are real, they should never serve as justification for engaging in fraud. He encouraged young people to pursue their dreams through honest and productive means, promising that fulfillment and success are possible without resorting to crime.
