The Society for Family Health (SFH), says it has inaugurated a campaign to promote healthy child spacing across the 34 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Katsina State.
The SFH programme Officer in the state, Folashade Olumeyan, disclosed this at a 1-day stakeholders’ meeting in Katsina on Wednesday.
According to her, the project, which is in collaboration with the state government, is being implemented through the Delivering Innovation in Self-Care 2.0 (DISC 2.0) project.
Olumeyan explained that the stakeholders’ meeting was aimed at engaging people in various communities to ensure the success of the project.
She disclosed that the project commenced in Sept. 2024, adding that the SFH was happy that in relation to healthy child spacing in the state, the project had significantly improved the landscape.
“Surprisingly, we have enjoyed a very high level of acceptance, what we’re doing now is to get momentum and seek to reach the areas that are hard to reach, especially the rural areas.
“That’s why community orientation is important for us. We need residents to be aware of this, so we need to go to those far areas to enable those there access this healthcare service,” Olumeyan said.
She added that the objectives of the project was increasing family planning access/equity, adherence to take-home units, ensuring informed choice and demonstrating health system strengthening.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Katsina LGA, Alhaji Isah Miqdad, while expressing gratitude for the project, assured of the Council’s support towards its success.
Represented by the council’s Secretary, Malam Abdulkarim Modibbo, the Chairman said that the council had focused more on the health sector since he came on board.
Stakeholders, particularly from the traditional institution and health sector, promised to ensure adequate support for the project.
