The home of suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, was attacked again on Tuesday night.
Naija News reports that this is the second such incident in 2025, following a previous attack in April.
A statement from the Media Office of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan on Wednesday revealed that armed men stormed the house late on Tuesday, breaking several windows before they were forced to retreat by security personnel.
The quick intervention by local police officers, community vigilantes, and some youths helped to stop the attackers, leading to the arrest of one suspect.
The suspect, identified as Suberu Jose, a well-known ritualist from the area, reportedly admitted to being involved and said it was his third time attacking the property.
Security operatives recovered a cutlass and charms from him, while his accomplices escaped.
Eyewitnesses said an angry mob nearly lynched Jose before police officers intervened and took him into custody.
“This recent arrest marked the first breakthrough in what appears to be a coordinated pattern of violence against the embattled female Senator,” the Media Office said.
It also noted that no arrests were made following the earlier attack on April 15.
This new attack comes at a time of rising political tension, shortly after the Federal Government filed two criminal cases against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The charges were brought not long after she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment—an allegation that led to her suspension from the Senate for six months.
“We call on the public to remain calm and steadfast in the pursuit of justice. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s commitment to truth and her tireless representation of her constituents should not be met with violence or intimidation,” the statement added.
Confirming the incident, Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, said: “It’s true that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s family house in Ihima was attacked yesterday (Tuesday). One person was arrested in connection with the incident and is giving useful information to the police.”
He also assured that the police would arrest and prosecute the other suspects who are currently on the run.
