Former Governor and serving Senator representing Bayelsa West, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has extended heartfelt congratulations to elder statesman Hon. Fyneman Wilson on the occasion of his 79th birthday, describing him as a father figure and a pillar of the Ijaw nation.
In a goodwill message marking the milestone, Senator Dickson paid glowing tribute to Hon. Wilson’s enduring legacy in politics and governance, which spans nearly five decades across old Rivers State and present-day Bayelsa.
“Yesterday was the 79th birthday of our leader and father, Hon. Fyneman Wilson, who means so much to our people and who is also a father to me,” Senator Dickson stated. “I wish to first congratulate him on attaining the milestone of 79 and to thank God for his life and for all He has used him to do.”
He also expressed appreciation to Hon. Wilson’s family, saying, “I thank his wives and members of his family for giving him the support and peace of mind to enjoy his old age.”
Senator Dickson commended the people who came together to honour the elder statesman and used the occasion to acknowledge the leadership within his Senatorial District who continue to uphold the values of respect and unity.
“I thank the leaders of the Senatorial District who are continuing in the tradition we have set — the tradition of supporting and encouraging our leaders, and of moving the Senatorial District away from the culture of division, pettiness, treachery, betrayal, disrespect, insults, and the habit of running down leadership that is common among Bayelsans and in the Ijaw land, especially now,” he said.
Senator Dickson described Hon. Wilson as an integral part of Bayelsa’s political history and a mentor whose wisdom and prayers have been instrumental in shaping many leaders.
“Hon. Fyneman Wilson has been a key pillar in the politics and governance of our state and our people for almost 50 years. He has been an integral part of government — from the old Rivers State to Bayelsa till now — and I have benefited immensely from his support, advice, and prayers,” he said.
The Senator concluded his message by praying for Hon. Wilson’s continued good health and many more years of service.
“I wish him a prosperous birthday and many happy returns, in good health and continued service. I hope and pray that God will keep him — and all of us — for many more celebrations to come,” he added.
