Former Governor of Bayelsa State and Senator representing Bayelsa West, Henry Seriake Dickson, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman and three-time Minister, Chief Audu Ogbeh, describing him as a “decent and broad-minded elder statesman whose wise counsel will be greatly missed”.
During a condolence visit to the family of the late politician, Senator Dickson recalled his close relationship with Chief Ogbeh, noting that the deceased was always willing to engage on issues of national importance and offer guidance.
“Throughout my governorship and my service as a federal legislator, Chief Audu Ogbeh always found time to discuss national issues. He encouraged me and shared his perspective on a wide range of matters. Indeed, he lived a life of service,” Dickson said.
The Senator, who is a High Chief of the Idoma Kingdom, said he was warmly received by Chief Ogbeh’s wife, children, and other family members during the visit. He prayed for God to grant the deceased eternal rest and comfort the bereaved family.
“Chief Ogbeh has departed at a time when wise and selfless service and counsel are mostly needed in nation-building, as our nation navigates a very trying moment,” Dickson lamented, adding that he intends to attend the funeral in Otukpa, Idomaland, God willing.
Chief Audu Ogbeh, a respected political figure, served Nigeria in various capacities, including as Minister of Communications, Minister of Steel, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, PDP National Chairman, and in 1979, he was the Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly from where President Shehu Shagari appointed him a Minister in 1982.
He died on Saturday, 9 August 2025, at the age of 78. Funeral preparations are already underway in his hometown, Otukpa, Benue State, where dignitaries from across the country are expected to bid him a befitting farewell.
