The national conversation surrounding high-profile complicity in Northern Nigeria’s security crisis deepened on Saturday, September 5, following new claims by a self-described childhood associate of notorious terror kingpin Dogo Gide.
Speaking during an exclusive press briefing at the Reiz Continental Hotel in Abuja, a man identified simply as Hassan provided a detailed account of how his long-standing relationship with Gide allowed him unprecedented access to the bandit leader’s inner circle and high-level contacts.
Hassan alleged that his childhood upbringing alongside Gide in the dense forests spanning Niger and Kaduna states positioned him as an unwitting intermediary. According to Hassan, this proximity granted him direct sight of logistics networks, financial negotiations, and visits from prominent figures attempting to mediate or coordinate with the armed group over the past three years.
Hassan claimed he grew up in the same community as Gide, establishing a personal trust that survived Gide’s rise to prominence as one of the North-West’s most feared warlords. Due to this background, Hassan stated he was routinely permitted inside high-security encampments in the Shiroro and Dansadau corridors between 2021 and 2024.
He alleged seeing several influential community leaders and political intermediaries visiting these camps under the guise of peace talks, claiming some maintained ongoing communication channels with the group’s commanders. The allegations have drawn swift responses from official channels, with authorities urging caution over unverified statements made by individuals connected to criminal networks.
Speaking on behalf of the military operational command on Saturday afternoon, Defense Media Operations spokesman Major General Edward Buba warned against amplifying unvetted testimony that could compromise ongoing counter-terrorism operations. “The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain resolute in neutralizing all terror structures,” Buba stated.
“We advise the public and the media that intelligence gathering is an active, rigorous process, and claims made by self-styled insiders must be subjected to thorough security verification.” Concurrently, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, issued a statement from the Force Headquarters in Abuja, confirming that intelligence arms are examining the claims.
Adejobi noted that anyone possessing actionable information regarding the funding, logistics, or political backing of armed groups should present such evidence through official law enforcement channels rather than public forums. Dogo Gide’s network has been responsible for numerous high-profile kidnappings, attacks on military infrastructure, and mass displacements across Kaduna, Niger, Katsina, and Zamfara states.
Security analysts note that while informal interlocutors often emerge from these conflict zones, claims regarding political linkages require stringent forensic and intelligence validation before concrete legal action can be pursued.
