The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in a joint gesture from its highest offices, has extended heartfelt condolences to the Nigerian government, the family of former President Muhammadu Buhari, and the Nigerian people following his death on July 13, 2025, in a London clinic.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, released an official statement expressing his “deepest condolences and sincere sympathy” to President Bola Tinubu and the bereaved family. In a similar communiqué, Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud conveyed his profound sorrow, acknowledging Buhari’s significant contributions to Nigeria’s national stability, security, and international diplomacy.
Both Saudi leaders emphasized the longstanding and robust ties between Nigeria and the Kingdom—highlighting their joint efforts in areas such as religious diplomacy, counterterrorism, trade, and energy cooperation under Buhari’s administration. The condolences were officially communicated via cables to President Tinubu and also released through statements at the Saudi Embassy in Abuja and Saudi Press Agency .
Buhari, aged 82, died in London after a prolonged illness . His remains were flown home on July 15 and interred in Daura, Katsina State, following a state funeral amidst a national mourning period marked by flags flown at half-mast .
