Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the establishment of the Lagos International Financial Centre (LIFC), describing the initiative as a major step toward positioning Lagos as a leading global financial hub.

The governor called on stakeholders across the public and private sectors to sustain collaboration and collective ownership of the project, stressing that strong partnerships would be critical to achieving the vision of a globally competitive financial centre.

Sanwo-Olu made the remarks at the unveiling of the Phase 1 report of the LIFC project, held at the Lagos State House, Marina. The governor, who also chairs the Lagos International Financial Centre Council (LIFCC), said the initiative represents a strategic economic reform aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s global competitiveness while expanding Lagos’ role in international finance.

According to him, the project, conceived about two years ago, is designed to attract international capital, deepen the financial markets and create sustainable economic opportunities for Lagos State and the country at large.

He noted that the LIFC initiative is anchored on a long-term vision supported by strong institutional frameworks, adding that its success would largely depend on consistent policies, stakeholder buy-in and continuity in implementation.

The governor expressed optimism that with sustained commitment and cooperation, the Lagos International Financial Centre would significantly enhance investment flows, job creation and economic growth in the state.
