The Acting Rector of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, (RUGIPO), Dr Lawson Sunday, has appealed to the striking workers of the institution to embrace dialogue and peace in the interest of the students.
This is contained in a statement by the Senior Assistant Registrar of the institution, Mr Olumide Olugosi on Monday in Akure.
Sunday, a registered engineer, was appointed by Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa as acting rector on April 25.
The acting rector assured workers that all issues affecting the polytechnic would be given due attention through appropriate channels.
He also promised staff that matters relating to promotion would be addressed with the urgency they deserved, in line with established procedures.
The acting rector called on all stakeholders to support ongoing efforts aimed at restoring full normalcy in the polytechnic.
He appealed to all members of staff to comply with the directive of the state government on the resumption of academic and administrative activities.
According to him, the prolonged disruption of academic activities has negatively impacted academic programmes and administrative operations.
He said that the government had demonstrated commitment to staff welfare, particularly through the payment of outstanding salary arrears and the constitution of a committee to address the implementation of the new minimum wage.
Sunday appealed for understanding and cooperation on the suspension of unions in the institution by the state government.
He urged staff to resume duties while engagements would continue, assuring that steps were being taken to address the concerns raised.
