SOMTOCHUKWU Maduagwu, 29, News Anchor, Reporter, and Producer with ARISE Television has been killed in a robbery incident, the management and staff of ARISE News Channel have announced. She was popularly known as Sommie.
She was killed in the early hours of Monday, 29 September 29, during an armed robbery attack at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.
The police are investigating the incident.
Born on 26 December 1995, Sommie was described by her colleagues as a cherished member of the ARISE News family and a vibrant voice who connected deeply with viewers. Beyond broadcasting, she was a lawyer, remembered as a professional, supportive colleague, and a true friend to many.
In a statement signed by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi, on behalf of management, ARISE News extended condolences to her parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and loved ones.
“Sommie’s voice is now silent, but her spirit, passion, and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory. We remain in shock and call for a speedy investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of the culprits,” the statement read.
Her passing has left colleagues, family, and friends devastated as tributes continue to pour in for the young journalist whose life was cut short in such tragic circumstances.
