The accident on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway that involved Anthony Joshua, the former world heavyweight boxing champion is really sad. This accident shows us again that driving carelessly and not following the rules on roads can be very bad. Anthony Joshua was.
Two people died. Anthony Joshua got a fracture in his leg. The accident is a reminder that we need to be more careful on the roads and make sure people follow the rules. Anthony Joshua is lucky to be alive after this accident, on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway.
The Federal Road Safety Corps did some investigations. They found out that the driver who was involved in the accident was driving too fast and was also overtaking wrongly. These are things that break the traffic laws and can get the driver into trouble with the law if someone dies because of it.
This accident happened on December 29 2025 and it killed some people who were very close to Joshua their names are Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.
The accident made a lot of people in Nigeria start asking questions about how safe the roads are, who is responsible when something, like this happens and if justice will be served. This is a sad situation and it is all too familiar to people in Nigeria.
The problem is that people drive fast they do not stay in their lanes and they overtake in a dangerous way. This happens a lot on roads like the Lagos Ibadan Expressway, which is one of the roads with the most traffic in the country.
Even though the government has told people times to drive safely and they have run campaigns to raise awareness people are still driving badly. The reason, for this is that the rules are not enforced consistently and when someone breaks the law they do not always get in trouble away.
Lagos Ibadan Expressway is an example of this problem because it is a major road and people use it all the time. The main issue is that people who drive on Lagos Ibadan Expressway are not always careful and this is why there are many accidents.
The thing is, the driver might get in trouble now and that is important. It is not because of who the victim was. Because people died. The rules of the road are simple if you drive badly and someone dies that is a crime.
When something like this happens and it is taken seriously it shows that the law is, for everyone and that the roads are not a place where you can do whatever you want. Road traffic laws are clear. The driver broke them so they should face the consequences. Lives were lost because of driving and that is a big deal.
This incident also shows what the Federal Road Safety Corps and the police do. They need to investigate, document everything properly and work with prosecutors.
These are steps that should happen all the time not just when famous people are involved. A lot of people in Nigeria die every year in accidents that nobody hears about and many families do not get the justice they deserve for the Federal Road Safety Corps and the police.

We need to think about stopping things from happening on the road not just punishing people when they do something wrong. To do this we need to make sure people are driving at speeds and that we are strict about making people follow the rules when they are passing other cars.
We also need to have signs on the roads that’re easy to understand and we need to keep teaching drivers about how to drive safely. All drivers whether they drive for work or just, for themselves need to know that getting impatient while driving can be very dangerous and can even cause people to die in a few seconds.
Road safety is very important. We need to focus on driver education and speed monitoring to prevent accidents. The Anthony Joshua crash is a reminder of how fragile life is on Nigerian roads and how urgently accountability is needed.
If this case leads to real consequences and renewed commitment to road safety, then the painful loss of lives may at least push the system toward change.
Otherwise, it will join a long list of tragedies that briefly shock the public and then fade, until the next crash forces the same conversation again.
