A notice shared earlier today on X revealed that demonstrators from across the country are preparing to converge on Abuja to demand immediate and consistent payment of their entitlements beginning later this week.
According to organizers, many retirees say they struggle to meet basic needs and often fall behind on medical bills because pension disbursement is frequently delayed or incomplete. They argue that they served the country faithfully, risking their lives to maintain security, and deserve better treatment in retirement. The protest is intended to pressure the government to address systemic flaws in the pension administration system, ensure timely payments, and establish sustainable reforms that prevent further hardship for former officers.
The retired officers are calling for the immediate resumption of full pension payments, retroactive compensation for missed amounts, and implementation of a transparent automated pension system. They have urged state commands to sensitize their members and pledged to remain peaceful while warning that they will escalate the protest with civil actions if the federal government fails to respond within seven days.
