The reinstated chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State’s Ifelodun Local Government Area, Hon. Adebayo Akinwale, has announced plans to recall over 1,500 workers earlier dismissed by the previous leadership.
Speaking at a press briefing in Ikirun on Friday, Akinwale described the mass sack of workers as “politically motivated and unjustifiable,” stressing that the decision had thrown many families into hardship. He said his administration would prioritize the welfare of grassroots workers to restore trust in governance.
“The workers who were laid off were mostly recruited under the APC-led local government, but the political tussle that followed led to their dismissal. Now that the matter has been resolved, and I have been reinstated as chairman, I will ensure every legitimate worker is reinstated to his or her rightful position,” Akinwale assured.
He noted that the recall process would be transparent and would cut across various departments, including health, education, and sanitation, to strengthen service delivery at the local level.
Community leaders and party members present at the event welcomed the announcement, commending the chairman for what they described as a “bold and people-centered move.”
One of the affected workers, Mrs. Morenike Adebisi, who spoke to reporters, expressed relief. “We have suffered since we were sacked. Many of us could not feed our families. This news has brought hope to our homes again”.
The Osun APC leadership also praised the development, urging other reinstated officials in the state to emulate Akinwale by prioritizing human welfare above partisan interests.
The recall of the 1,500 workers is expected to commence in phases, beginning later this month, with verification and documentation to ensure proper placement.
