The Katsina Charity Support Foundation has fed about 3,000 patients in hospitals and the visitors’ house (Gidan Baki), and also facilitated the release of 31 inmates in the state, according to the foundation’s Ramadan report compiled by a 19-member committee and made available to newsmen in Katsina on Saturday. – yesterday, March 29
The report was signed by the committee’s Chairman, Alhaji Lawal Aliyu-Lawal, and the Secretary, Malam Danjuma Katsina.
The report of this gesture of compassion came even as the NSCDC also reported it has deployed some 2,160 officers to maintain security in Katsina during the Sallah cebreations.
Established in 2020, the foundation aims to assist less privileged individuals during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to the committee, the foundation mobilised funds ranging from N1,000 to N1 million through contributions by well-meaning individuals, particularly those in the Katsina Times Forum WhatsApp group, leading to the raising of a total of N6.149 million in 2025.
“The foundation operates with three committees. The first is focused on freeing prisoners to allow them to observe the Ramadan fast with their families.
“The second is in charge of cooking, packaging, and delivering food to hospitals and Katsina Gidan Baki.
“The third committee handles purchasing and delivering food items and cash assistance to less privileged individuals on the outskirts of Katsina.”
The report said from its inception in 2020 through to 2025, the foundation had gathered and donated a total of N30 million to support less privileged persons during the Ramadan period.
“The foundation also partners with Mobile Media Crew, Katsina Post, Verified News, and Jakadiya Radio and Television.
“Its activities are actively supported and promoted by the Katsina Times Media Group, publishers of Katsina Times Online, Katsina City News magazine, and Taskar Labarai.”
NSCDC deploys 2,160 operatives for security in Katsina
Meanwhile, the Katsina Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 2,160 operatives to maintain law and order during the Sallah festivities in the state.
SC Buhari Hamisu, the Command’s spokesman, disclosed this in a statement in Katsina on Saturday, adding that the personnel would also protect critical national assets and infrastructures.
According to him, the NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr Aminu Datti, is committed to ensuring law and order before, during, and after the Eid-el-Fitr Sallah celebration across the state.
He also highlighted the reviewed strategies, which include intensive surveillance, gathering credible intelligence, community engagement, and collaboration with other security agencies.
The commandant prayed for peace and progress for both the state and the country.
“The operational order includes strategic deployment at the Emir’s palace Kofar Soro in Katsina, Kangiwa in Daura Emirate, as well as Central Mosques in both emirates and other Eid grounds across the state.
“Personnel were also detailed for Hawan Bariki in relevant locations in both Katsina and Daura emirates,” he said.
He added that personnel have been deployed in all 34 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state and in key government facilities.
Datti tasked the relevant Heads of Departments/Units, Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, Unit Commanders, OC Outposts, and Special Forces with ensuring proper coordination and patrolling to guarantee security during the festivities.
The commandant emphasised professionalism, commitment, and dedication among the deployed personnel.
“Personnel deployed must be very professional and work in synergy with other security agencies to ensure a hitch-free Sallah celebration,” he said.
He also urged the public to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities, and be law-abiding.
Datti wished the people of Katsina a peaceful and safe Sallah celebration.
